May Japantown Events You Have Got to Attend

We have a busy May coming up in the Japantown neighborhood. From Family to Cultural fun, we have something for everyone.

1. Children’s Day aka Kodomo No Hi, こどもの日

When: Saturday, May 2, 11a to 4p

Where: Japantown Peace Plaza

Cost: Free



This event is all about the kids. The Japanese Cultural Community Center of Northern California (JCCCNC) sponsors this event You will find many activities for the kids to participate in and you will also see some great performances from Kid’s from local organizations.

2. Sankanakami Film

When: Tuesday, May 5, 6p

Where: Japan Center East Mall, Union Bank Community Room

Cost: Free

3. Suite -J-Town – A Walk Through Time

When: Sunday, May 10, Shows: 1pm and 3pm

Where: Japan Center East Mall, 2nd Floor, Suite 525

Cost: $15, Register here



Walk Through Time will invite audiences to experience the history of SF Japantown and celebrate through music, dance, and storytelling performances at multiple historic sites. Join us for an interactive adventure through space and time as we explore J-Town history through music, dance and storytelling performances.

4, Kimono Day, サンフランシスコ 着物デー

When: Sunday, May 10, 10a to

Where: Kinokuniya Mall, 2nd Floor

Cost: Free to view, Kimono Rental Available



This will be 39th one to be exact. You can dress up in your own Kimono and or you can rent one. Men welcome as well. There will be a Kimono Fashion show at 2pm. There are shopping specials from participating merchants to people who wear Kimonos.
