What is Origami?

[Editor Note: This is an article from Linda Mihara of Paper Tree originally appeared on the Nichi Bei Weekly’s Japanese Culture and Cherry Blossom Festival Guide] Origami is the art of paper folding. Using a simple square sheet of paper, you can create an animal, bird, flower or decorative object just by using your hands. While some of the simple origami designs can be produced with less than 10 folds, more complex shapes require several hundreds of folds and creases – mastered by just a few who have studied and developed origami for years.

If you are interested in Origami, the annual Origami Palooza event is scheduled on June 22, 2014 from 1pm to 5pm at the Japan Center Malls. You can learn many folding techniques from guest experts in Origami.
